Claude MonetStack of Wheat (Snow Effect)
Description
Stack of Wheat of 1890 belongs to the series Monet painted in the field immediately behind his house at Giverny. He painted the same stack in every season and at every hour; this version is a winter one, under an overcast sky. The shadow on the snow is not grey but blue and violet — which is how the painter actually saw it.
The original is oil on canvas, 66 × 93 cm. It is held by the Art Institute of Chicago, accession number 1933.1155.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. A quiet winter subject sits well in a bedroom or a living room.

“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
