Claude MonetStacks of Wheat (Sunset, Snow Effect)
Description
Stacks of Wheat (Sunset, Snow Effect) is from 1890 and belongs to the same series as the other stacks, but it takes the most extreme hour: the sun just before setting, and the snow beneath it orange and violet at once. The painter was showing that the same object, at another hour, is no longer the same object.
The original is oil on canvas, 65.3 × 100.4 cm, an elongated format. It is held by the Art Institute of Chicago, accession number 1922.431.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. A warm sunset works well in a living room, where it is seen in the evening.

Claude Monet
“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
