Description
Rouen Cathedral, Morning Sun was painted in 1893 and carries a second name, Harmony in Blue. The same portal as in the other canvases of the series is caught here in early light, while the stone is still cold: blue and pale gold instead of browns. The painter was showing that the object is not the subject of the work — the light is.
The original is oil on canvas, 91 × 63 cm, an upright format. It is held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, accession number RF 2000.
