Description
The Willows was painted in 1880 along the Seine. The trees stand in a line on the bank and their branches fall into the water, where they dissolve into the reflection. The painter builds the green out of dozens of tones, from almost yellow to almost blue, so that the foliage never becomes a single plane.
The original is oil on canvas, 66.7 × 81.9 cm. It is held by the National Gallery of Art in Washington, accession number 2015.19.65.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. A soft green settles a room and sits well in a bedroom.

Claude Monet
“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
