Description
Venice, Palazzo Dario is from 1908, from Monet’s only stay in Venice. The marble front dissolves in the water into vertical strokes longer than the building itself. The painter was sixty-eight, worked in Venice for three months, and went on finishing those canvases years later at Giverny.
The original is oil on canvas, 66.2 × 81.8 cm, an elongated format. It is held by the Art Institute of Chicago, accession number 1933.446.
