Claude MonetLe Pavé de Chailly
Description
Le Pavé de Chailly runs through the forest of Fontainebleau, where the young Monet worked at his first attempts to paint outdoors. The road narrows towards the centre and pulls the eye into shadow; the canopy above is a single mass, not separate leaves. The exact year is not established: the source records a decade rather than a year, so none is given here.
The original is oil on canvas, 43.5 × 59.3 cm, an elongated format. It is held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, accession number RF 1672.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. A woodland subject works well in a hallway or beside a staircase.

Claude Monet
“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
100% hand-painted paintings
Every painting is painted by an artist with a brush on canvas – never a print.
