Description
Madame Monet in a Kimono is from 1876 and is among the largest canvases Monet ever painted. Camille poses in a red kimono with a fan in her hand, and fifteen further fans are arranged on the wall behind her. The red of the robe is dense and almost in relief; beside it every other tone on the canvas reads as cool.
The original is oil on canvas, 231.8 × 142.3 cm, a markedly upright format. It is held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, accession number 56.147.
